Is there a setting in XP I need to change/select as print screen does not work.

Thanks

The Print Screen key, is often abreviated as Print Scrn.

The sole function of this key is to take a snapshot or picture of your
computer screen and copy it to the clipboard.

Alt + Print Scrn

[[Will take a screenshot of the currently selected window, not the entire
screen like the normal screenshot function. This allows you to target that
specific window that you have open and nothing else. No more cropping those
screenshots to grab the content you were after!]]

You have to paste the image in to Paint, Wordpad, Word or some other program
that will handle images.

In addition to Wesley Vogel's excellent description, many new keyboards come
with an F-Lock key. When this key is active, the PrtScn button does not
function normally. So, deactivate F-Lock to enable the PrtScn button.

Thanks ppl

I have upgraded from 98SE and finding out all these annoying little things that now do NOT
work.

Yes, I soon found out about the F lock as well.

I had installed a Windows upgrade and all sorts of things stopped working and for me as a
web developer, all very painful.

I did a system restore to two weeks ago and all is working now.

Since we are on the topics of keyboards, my keyboard has all kinds of
buttons (e.g.: "My Favorites", "Back," "Forward"). Most are obvious
although I don't use them much.

BUT there is one key I don't understand: It's on the upper right and has Fn
on it.

WTF is the "Fn" key supposed to do?

And while we are at it, why does the F11 key have a "unlocked" symbol on it.

Try looking at your keyboard's manual.

The Fn key is probably a different color than the rest of the silkscreens on
your other keys. However, you may find on some keys a smaller silkscreen
the same color as your Fn key. Press Fn and the desired key to get that
smaller result.

Sure it does. It saves the screen to the clipboard. After you hit the
key, open up a graphics editor and then select Edit | Paste
