You need to paste it into a paint program and crop the portion you want to keep.

I want to drop a screen dump onto a slide but want to be able to selct just a
portion of the screen to show for better clarity.
There is, but it involves a bit more software. Screen capture programs often allow
you to "clip" a selected area from the screen rather than capturing the whole screen
or active window.
There may be free programs available to do this; SnagIt from Techsmith is a good
commercial program. MS OneNote includes a tool to do this also.

Here is the solution you find on windows 7 and vista.
Run C:\Windows\system32\SnippingTool.exe
