Primo PDF

Hi all!
Hey, a friend just gave me a link to a new freeware PDF printer app
-- PrimoPDF (www.primopdf.com). It appears this one is made by
Aladdin Enterprises, the same people who make AFPL Ghostscript. Has
anyone tried this, have positive or negative feedback on it?

I downloaded it. It is 10,324,105 bytes in size. I have not been able
to get it to install correctly on my Win 98SE computer. I seem to be
getting error messages in the MSDOS program PortInstall. They have a
help forum but you have to register to use it and I am not prepared to
do that.

Wow wow wow, don't jump conclusions here. It is made by
ActivePDF, they only offer it under the Aladdin Free Public
License (AFPL). That's about the only connection it has to
GhostScript itself...

No problems here! It works great on Windows-XP Pro. I just love this piece
of Software.

It's up again. I tested it and compared it with PDFcreator : the
latter is a little more configurable : you can set up options for
the pdf generation (font printing accuracy...).

Indeed. I'm betting that it's just another pointless front end for
GhostScript.

Hmm. It does indeed appear to be a GhostScript front end... the
advantage I see here is that it's all automated, no need to go through
the complex configuration process (see
http://pad.olsonnetwork.com/faqs/index.html). Unfortunately, I
haven't been able to get it to work on 98SE either. I'll be sure to
post if I do fine a way...

Hmm... it's unfortunately not as automatic as one would hope on Win9x
systems. Here's a bit from the support topic in the forums:

-----------begin forum post---------------
From: Douglas Saltsman

Most recently I've noticed some problems running PrimoPDF on Win98 and
WinME, while this issue goes back to QA to make sure that we can
properly work with these environments, I will detail some steps how
you can get around some of the installation problems that one may
experience. The instructions below take for granted that the essential
Primo files have been copied to your system.

Step 1-

Inside your PrimoPDf->Primomon folder you will see Primomon95.dll
Rename this to Primomon.dll and place it in your system32 folder.

Step 2-

Create a printer Named PrimoPDf from a postscript Printer definition
(of your choice). When asked which port you want to use, select the
PrimoPort that should be defined.

Once you've taken these steps you should now have a printer named
PrimoPDF that should launch PrimoPDF properly.
----------------end forum post---------------

Hmmph. Hopefully they'll fix this soon...
