Anybody successfully running Thunderbird 0.5?

Hi!
Hey, I just got the new Thunderbird version... but I can't get it to
start. I unzip it and run it, and nothing happens. If I do a
Ctrl-Alt-Delete, I can see that it's running in the background, just
not doing anything. Has anyone had any luck with this? I'm running
Win98SE.

Clint....

I just installed it on a XP pro machine and works fine for me.

Just unzipped it to a folder C:\Thunderbird and clicked on the EXE file.

No problem...started right up.

I've seen that happen in previous versions. Are you updating? If so, you
obviously followed the instructions to

- remove or rename the existing directory or use a new one
- disable ALL extensions on the old TB BEFORE installing the new one
- make sure you have the appropriate latest extensions before you
re-enable them

The extensions are a fabulous idea, but there should be a clear table
somewhere of which ones work with which versions.

Now you're frightening me. I just installed 0.5 right on top of 0.4
and it jumped right in and kept all my e-mail info and even e-mails
I'd received in 0.4 were still there

Ok, not a problem.

You should delete it all (or just rename the directory) and re-install.
You should never install an update over an existing program except if the
doc (and who reads that?) says so. Occasionally you can; mostly not.

The profile info is separate so you shouldn't lose any of it.

Ya see, by not renaming your old TB install, you can't go back to it,
either. I'd find your profile, rename the "chrome" subdirectory (see
instructions on finding it in TB install doc page if you don't know where
it is) and remove the TB installation directory and begin again.

All right, lemme clarify this then... has anyone gotten it to work on
a *Win98* machine? I don't have access to XP atm, although that could
change soon.

Win98SE here. Just put in new folder "Thunderbird5" leaving old
thunderbird folder alone. Made a shortcut to the thunderbird.exe in the
new folder. Ran the program. All my settings and old e-mail were
there. In a day or to I'll put the old thunderbird folder in the
recycle bin. You don't really need to save the old folder I'm just
extra careful. Your preferences and old e-mail should be in
"C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Thunderbird"

Everything appears to work fine. good luck

Win98Se here and now running ok.

Do you have any anti-virus programs running? I installed TB 0.5 and had
nortons 2001 and it would not work with it. I had to change anti-virus
program before it would work.

I have been running it off and on.
The only pro I have had with it is it does not remember the font size I like
to use when I close it.

Why would you change font size just to close it ?
