Is there an Active Directory attribute that will ONLY display the "Default"
or "Primary" reply to SMTP proxy address? When using "proxyAddresses" you
get ALL SMTP addresses when all we really need is the default reply to
address. i am using csvde to export this value to compose a corporate
directory.

Primary SMTP address is sotred in mail attribute in AD . As you already said
proxyAddress contains all SMTP addresses + X.400 addresses.
