when i boot up, i get a black screen with the following message:

"SATA Primary drive 0 not found

SATA Secondary drive 0 not found

Primary drive 1 not found

Strike F1 key to continue,
F2 key to run setup utility"

I hit F1 and it boots up, but, after an hour or so, computer gets sluggish.
So I reboot.

This is a message from your mobo or drive controller bios. Check the manual
for the device.

Hi Kyle take it you have a pair of Sata Hard drives? can you please post your
settings as listed in you boot.ini file. You can get them by going Start -
Run type msconfig amd clicking the boot.ini tab.
Check that the drivers are installed and there is no phsical problem with
the cable.

Thanks Joe,

It reads:

"[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windoes XP Home
Edition"/fastdetect/NoExecute=OptIn"

Thank you very kindly!

Hi kyle can you just confirm you have 1 SATA hard drives with XP installed on
a partitioned disk.
When you installed XP did you install the SATA drives?
Also can you check the jumpers on your drives please. If you dont know where
to look for them i can assist.
Believe this is a SATA driver issue more than a Windows one.

Thanks

Joe,

I do have XP installed, although I am not sure if I have a partitioned disk
or if I have a SATA hard drive. I bought my Dell Dimension 4600 about 3
years ago and XP was already installed. LOL, I don't know where the jumpers
are, either. Pleas help!

I work with computers every day, but hardly ever perform maintenance, but do
keep it updated.

Thank you very much!
