preview pane not available in pst file

I have normal preview pane options in my inbox but not in my pst files stored
on my hard drive. The Preview pane button is "grayed out" and non-operational.

How do I preview psts?

How do I preview psts?

The preview pane is only available for individual folders. If you want
to view messages in .pst files other than your default, that .pst file
must be opened in Outlook first, then each folder can be opened to
preview messages.

My psts are opened in outlook and in the folder view it shows
eg
+mail 2005 (has received mail)
- deleted (has deleted mail but empty)
- sent (has all sent mail)

should i make another folder maybe called received?
