Preview Pane and unread

I all

I was wondering if there is a setting where if you click on an email with
the preview pane on it does not mark the mail as read? It's a thing but would
make life easier.

Any help greatly appreciated

PS I am running Outlook 2003

Tools-->options-->other-->reading pane-->untick "mark item as read when
selection changes"

that should do the trick

This discussion has helped me a lot.
Important emails were being missed when emails not being read were
automatically being flagged "as read".
This is a very annoying feature. The flags should not change,ever, unless an
email is opened, at least.
At least when it is opened there is a half chance that it was "half read",
if you know what i mean!!
