Preview in browser

Now that there are so mnay different browsers on the market how do you make
sure that your website will look and function correctly in all of them. Like
Netscape, Safari,Firefox, etc.

Yes, you install them. But, you should really use File | Preview in browser
to get a proper rendering.

If you're pretty careful to design your pages well, being sure to use good
code, you don't need to check pages in all those browsers. Netscape and
Firefox are very similar. Almost no one uses Opera.

I have pages that will not work correctly in FF 2.0, but will work in NS 8.1 and IE 6.

Like I said, if you're pretty careful to design your pages well, being sure to use good code, you
normally won't have these problems.

Well, they aren't identical, so it makes sense that some code would render
differently.

I just know that I've made dozens of sites, checking them with Firefox, and
never had to make a single adjustment for Netscape. But, I keep my code very
simple and clean. I find that the "browser compatibility problems" these
days can be almost totally avoided this way.

The issue was with displaying .png image as a background from Google Map API. If add the recommended
doctype, then none of the browsers can display the page.

Both FF & NN have a setting in preferences to block images that are not on the same server
- I had that happen to me too w/ the Google API until I found it and allowed them

Thanks, but my FF 2.0 problem is that FF requires the Apple QuickTime plug-in to display PNG images
files. I don't allow QT on my system.

I see. I don't use PNGs on the web, so don't have that problem.
