A few weeks ago I noticed that when I created a new powerpoint and saved it
and then went to reopen it there was no preview image of the file just a
white box. It had always done that before and I have not made any changes in
powerpoint to take away that ability. In fact, I checked and the box is
still checked to make a preview thumbnail of the file when it is saved. I
have Vista Home edition and have had jpeg and video thumbnail issues before
but not with powerpoint. What could be causing this?

Are you making changes to the Title Slide layout in View | Slide Master?
