Preventing MSN becoming my home page - URGHH! I hate MSN for this !!

Brian A

I am absolutely sick of having to remove the registry entry that MSN
creatres, totally and abolutely against my wishes, which then makes
msn.com my home page in MSIE 6. I only want a blank page. I don't want
any web site to be my home page. Anyone know how to prevent MSN taking
over my browser ( or any other site for that matter).
Remove 'no_spam_' from email address.

Hi,

You don't necessarily have to turn to your registry to
reset your homepage. You may also want to try the following
methods (cited from various websites):

---

1) Create a new Desktop shortcut

2) In the command line, (highlight and paste the below)
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome

3) Name the shortcut: (example) IE6 Blank
From now on you can paste a saved URL without loading your
ISP software, etc.

4) You can also drag this shortcut into your Quick Launch
area.

Note: this is the same as setting your Home Page to:
"about:blank"
Ad-Aware users, setting your page to "About:Blank" causes a
false CWS detection.

Alternatively, you may try the following:

---

To remove all ISP branding, try this:

Click [Start] [Run] Type any of the following command and
press Enter
"Rundll32 Iedkcs32.dll,BrandCleanInstallStubs"
or
"Rundll32 Iedkcs32.dll,Clear"

---

The above go for a common case, and may help you. In the
case of more general situation, you will want to check your
system for adware - software which can cause problems much
like the one you mentions (changing your homepage), as well
as many more.

Programs, such as AdAware (link below), will identify and
eliminate these types of programs. You can download AdAware
from here:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

It's critical to remember updating it after
installation - this ensures you have the latest protection.
You may also want to try CWShredder - it catches variations
which may have been missed by AdAware. It's available from:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

As with AdAware, be sure you update it prior to running it.

seems to be a growing problem. can you access them as an
isp without using their software? just enter the access
info into your modem connect settings and use a different
browser or uninstall them (hopefully)from ie.
