Click on C and scroll to "Check Disk - Disk Checking Runs Upon Boot" for
tips. Note: there is no scandisk in XP.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I am running WIn xp/pro/sp2 in the above CHKDSK
post.

From a command prompt;

chkntfs C: /x

but you might want to investigate why it runs.
