Preventing a cell from being deleted

Is there a way to lock a cell so that info can be entered, but not
edited or deleted without a password?

I work in a training department and we post a roster out on a network
drive. We have supervisors go in and add students to that roster. What
is happening is that if a supervisor doesn't see an opening, he/she
just deletes someone already in tehre and puts in their own entry.
Then we have 2 (or more) students show up for that slot.

Any help is gratly appreciated.

I don't think it can be done without macros for XL97 or 2000, but 2002 may
have some additional non-macro protection mechanism. I don't have 2002 so I
can't tell you for sure. Even if macros are to be used, it may be difficult
to enforce.
You may want to use a userform for sensitive data entry, but that would
involve macros.
