Prevent User From Overwriting Files

Is there anyway to prevent a user from overwriting files? We have some TIFF
files (opened using Microsoft Office Document Imaging), and we want the users
to be able to open the document, save as the same document AND BE DENIED
ACCESS, hence being forced to save as a new filename.

I have tried and tried, but cannot seem to come up with a way to do this.

Please help!

I've tried different combinations of folder/file permissions and cannot get
any combination to work.

Lazy posts deserve nothing, Deny Write works here, but as you don't say why it doesn't work for you no help is possible. Don't post here again idiot.

Thanks for the flame. If you would read my first post, you could infer that
they need WRITE access. They need to have write access to the folder, and
have delete access (so MODI can remove temporary files). It's almost as each
file as it is created needs to be marked as read only.

You could very easily just tell me you need more information than what I
gave, instead of calling me lazy and an idiot, and tell me I shouldn't post
here again.

Its very hard to understand exactly what you want. It seems as if you want
someone to be able to open and edit files, then save, then be denied access
to the same file. It just doesn't make sense. If you try and explain it
again someone might be able to help.

You can't have access then be denied access its just not possable.

not sure what you are trying to accomplish here, but here are 2 suggestions:
1`: put all the TIFF files in one folder, remove all groups on the security
tab, leave the "everyone" group with read only rights, and propogate the
rights to the contents.

2:mark each TIFF file as read only.
