Why does the search companion pop up everytime I press the space bar, and
more importantly, how do I stop this happening? I am using XP Media Centre
edition with Service pack 2. I have tried system restore, and anti spyware
software but nothing has fixed the problem. It's probably something simple,
but I would be grateful for any help.

Are you in specific programs when this happens? Is this a laptop? Do
you use any accessibility features?

Joe

It happens in all programs. It is not a laptop and I have no accessibility
features on.

A few more ideas:

- What a/v software are you running? I doubt seriously any standard
software would cause this, and wonder if you have a virus. If you can
with your a/v software, schedule a boot scan.

- Open Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages tab,
Advanced tab, Details button, check "Turn off advanced text services".

- Open Device Manager, locate the keyboard and remove it. Restart the
computer so the keyboard will be seen and reinstalled.

Thanks for the suggestions, all of which were very sensible. Unfortunately,
turning off the advanced text services and reinstalling the keyborad didn't
work.

I'm using Bullguard anti-virus and have sent them various reports, but they
can find nothing wrong. I have also installed Spyware Doctor since the
problem first emerged, but its scans have found nothing.

I'm grateful for your efforts and would be glad to hear if you have any
other suggestions. Do you think it could just be something dodgey in the
keyboard or am I just clutching at straws?

Borrow a keyboard to see if it continues.
