Pressing Shift cause beep; how can the beep be disabled

Hi,

I've got a friend whose Win2000 system has started to beep when he presses
the Shift key while displaying nothing but the Desktop. It sounds to me
like he might have triggered an Accessibility feature, but I can't find any
info on that symptom in Win2000 Help. Of course, it might also be a virus,
but I'm hoping that there might be a simple configuration setting of some
sort that will solve his problem.

Has anyone experience a symptom like this?

"Toggle Keys" in the accessibility options in the control panel, although
the beep actually occurs on Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and Num Lock, not Shift.
If this is really happening with the Shift key on the desktop, well, I don't
know what that would be all about.
