Preparing for Vista Upgrade

I

Ian R

Hi

I'm currently running XP Pro and planning to get the Vista Ultimate upgrade.

I have all "My Documents" located on a RAID 1 partition.

The RAID controller is on the motherboard - an ASUS AN8 Premium SLi.

I'd appreciate any advice on precautions I should to take to ensure there is
no risk of damaging the RAID array. Of course I regularly carry out a full
backup of the data.

I wondered if I should disconnect the RAID drives before doing the upgrade
and once the upgrade install is done and all happy then reconnect the RAID
drives?

FYI my current XP system boots from a separate (non RAID) drive and I've
created a new partition ready for Vista OS.

Thanks for your time

That would be safer. Its unlikely be bug free for a while yet.

And that backup is your only reliable safety-net. Face it: Vista is
new and has new bugs. If you want to be sure your data is safe, let it
mature for at least a year. Judging from all previeous MS operating
system, they will not get it right this time either. But at some time
the most dangerous flaws will have been found and work-arounds will be
known.

Impossible to tell. In theory that should work.

That does sound like the right approach. But installing something
new and unproven is allways a big risk.

Run the Vista upgrade advisor, that's what it's for!
If there are no vista drivers for your RAID controller, you may have
problems.
Mike.
