any thoughts on a pciex4 rocket raid 2320 vs an areca arc-1220 pciex8card?

Highpoint RocketRaid 2320 pciex4 (x8,16 compat) raid 0/1/5/10 jbod
$239 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115026

My system is currently a 1.86 core2 intel cpu.. from what i've read
the rocketraid isnt true hardware and would probably eat cpu cycles..
but how bad (raid 5 3 drive)...?

The dilemma is i need a board that supports pciex16 v2.0 and has an
available pciex4 or pciex8 slot..

Most likely, eventually crossfire.. but for now i'm using my p5ne sli
board.. where i can turn the 3rd port into pciex8 for the raid card..

With crossfire three port pciex16 v2.0, the third port becomes
pciex4.. fine for rocket raid, not so fine for areca at pciex8...

Any thoughts on which card is better (guess its obvious).. or would
the rocket raid be "adequate" on either a crossfire motherboard at
pciex4 or the asus at pciex8?

Cheers
