Pre-FBA El Torito CD

There are suppose to be two cds that are required to make a El Torito CD.

The bootable finalized El Torito CD you use HD2ISO.EXE to make correct?
But what about the pre-FBA XPE Image CD I'm suppose to have for the FBA?

What do I use to make that ISO? Do I just copy the image files on any CD and then label the CD anything I want or is it suppose to have a spicific CD label or am I suppose to use hd2iso.exe agian and if so how do I do that?

Dear Nathan,

Just use HD2ISO to make iso images.

Hi Nathan,

Make pre FBA CD using hd2iso on HDD partitions that will be used for XPe FBA. (XPe files are not required to be present, just
partition that will not change).

So each time I make a new XPE build I don't have to make a new PreFBA cd? Is this correct? Why does it only require a partition that will not change, how does this help with PNP during FBA?

Thanks,
Nathan

Also, can the partition be any size I want or does it have to be the same exact size as the XPE image?

Hi Nathan,

Partition can be of any size you want <700 MB.

You should set similar value in TD to avoid license error. But XPe image size do not have to fill full partition.

Empty El-torito CD is required to be present in drive during the FBA so driver get loaded and initialized in registry.
Also drive letters for EL-torito volumes will be assigned based on partition sizes and eltorito diskid (default "ELTO").
This is no high math but for now is required.

The Pre-FBA "test" CD must be an El-Torito volume - EWF and the El-Torito
component look for this volume during FBA to enumerate storage volumes so
that the system knows where the El-Torito CD is expected to be in the final
configuration.

In addition, the "test" CD must contain the same El-Torito signature as your
runtime and it must be of the same size as your target partition. This has
to do with how the volume information is stored in the system registry (it
identifies a volume by both signature and size). It is usually best to
leave the ET signature at its default value.

If you've already done the process once and haven't changed either the
El-Torito signature in TD or the size of your target partition, you can
re-use your old PreFBA CD, or even a final CD so long as it matches these
requirements. It doesn't actually matter what's on the CD - just so long as
the system can identify it as an El-Torito volume. Make sure that this CD
is in the drive both during FBA and when you run etprep.

Please let me know if this helps resolve your issue. Thanks!
