Prb after dcpromo

R

Ray

After I created a domain using dcpromo, folders _msdcs,
_tcp, _udp and _sites have not been created. Netdiag
indicates [RCODE_SERVER_FAILURE] and netdiag /fix did not
correct the problem.

DNS server is in the same server where th DC is. I am
running W2k SP4.

DNS address: 127.0.0.1

What is happening and how can I resove this problem ?

Thanks.

Are you trying to add a second DC by running DCPROMO on a
member server? If so, you need to change the IP of your
DNS server to match the IP of your NIC on the DC running
DNS. Doesn't sound like you have that from what you
explained.

DNS on your servernic(s) should point to your server-IP.
Setup DNS-server and make sure it only listens to the server-IP. On tab
Forwarders you put the ISP-DNS-numbers.

Restart the Netlogon service, then check DNS to see if the the subfolders
have been created. If the folders have been created, reboot and check the
Event Viewer System log. If there is a new error saying something like
Netlogon was unable to register resource records because there was no DNS
server, you will have to make Netlogon dependent on DNS. You can do this
with regedt32.
