PPT VBA - Clicking on non-existent textbox?

There's only one thing you can say to that:
Gol Forth Solo Mantis AndF Multi-pascal.

O dear. I've if not created, at least abetted and encouraged a monster.

Having heard of it is about all I can lay claim to. Oh, I may have read an article
about it in Byte magazine, remember that?

SNOBOL is a string-processing language (hence my comment about the STRING of
puns, but if you have to explain a joke...). Sorry, I must have missed the
BYTE magazine article. I learned SNOBOL in a class that also covered APL and
LISP, but that was a long time ago.

They must have covered that in the Byte article. Got it on the first take. ;-)

From SNOBOL to APL. Polar opposites on the verbosity scale.

Hi David,
I have never seen the behavior you described.

Phew, I was starting to doubt myself for a minute there so I've backtracked
to how it all started, (I've done a lot of attempted fixes), and I've
recreated the original problem.
You are right, you can click on boxes which are layered but I noticed that
whereas you can click anywhere on the topmost box including text, any other
box lower down the zorder will only allow you to click on the textbox edge
and not the text itself.
Now, it would be fair of you to say that during a presentation an audience
wouldn't notice if you were clicking on the text or just off it and you
would be right. However, this presentation is designed to be run by a single
user on their screen and not by me. I noticed it straight off and thought
I'd forgotten to assign an event to the box. That is until I moved the mouse
away from the text. Call me Mr. Pernickety but I thought it looked
unprofessional so was resolved to correcting the offending detail. The
attempted fixes seemed to Snobol (thank you Mr. Steve ;-) ) out off control.

I appreciate the help yourself and others have offered, (puns excluded), and
there is plenty to be going on with.

Many thanks

Mr. P

Hi Steve,
My money's betting the other way. Give it time, poke it a bit and sooner
or
later (I'm betting on sooner) the Light. On event will fire and
ZigZag.Aha.NowIGetIt will toggle from false to true.

I appreciate the sentiment Steve, I can see your glass is half full.

And now I know you're fallible ;-)

Let me get you a refill sometime.

Cheers

Hi Kathy,
(After all, if I could...)

What's this? Modesty?
I would have thought a lady with your obvious charm, subtlety, intelligence
and other assets, (can I stop yet?), would have been proudly proclaiming
from the highest rooftops.
And modesty as well - a virtue greatly admired so they say.

So where were we?

Oh yes, I've just realised that OO is in Pooh Bear. What a coincidence eh?
The conspiracy is lent another hand.
Do you reckon PB could be part of the group monitoring the take-up of oo by

I think we're on (to) something here.

You got straps around the back of your jacket as well?

I thought mine were designer.

I was born with it. But since I'm the only Aussie here, at least my jacket
is the right way up! <vbg>.

Through all the puns, I've lost track of this. Is the problem solved? If
not, did you try Steve's GotoSlide solution (jumping to the same slide
you are on)? Two more questions:

(1) Are you using a Mac or Windows?
(2) Do you have any animated GIFs on the slide?
(3) There is no question 3.

Out of interest, are you an Aussie at home or an Aussie abroad?

He's an Aussie wherever he goes, isn't he?

I mean, he's not going to turn into a Frenchman just because he visits Brisbane
or Stuttgart.

Is he?

Right now, I think he is an Aussie at home, asleep. But for the last week of
September and the first week of October, he will be an Aussie abroad in San
Diego and then Seattle. You should look into joining us in San Diego. Little
thing called PPT Live (www.PPTLive.com). I believe you would fit in fairly
well :)

Hi David,
Through all the puns, I've lost track of this. Is the problem solved?

Not as yet but I can scrap all the 'fixes' I've done and make a fresh start
with all the new information.
I'll post when I have a known fix [or get stuck again ;-)].
(1) Are you using a Mac or Windows?

My apologies for not providing this information.
Windows XP Pro (all service packs)
Office 2003 (all service packs)
(2) Do you have any animated GIFs on the slide?

There are a number of png files, oodles of custom animation but no animated
gifs. Sorry if this has destroyed a theory.
(3) There is no question 3.

That's a coincidence 'cos there's no third answer either. Strange.

Incidently, not only have I recreated the 'problem' on the original
presentation but also replicated it on another presentation specifically for
that purpose.
Steps:
1. On blank presentation, insert 2 png files and 2 small text boxes(with
"More") and 2 larger text boxes(with anything).
2. Put the 2 small text boxes on top of one another so they always appear in
the same position on the slide.
3. On each large textbox make a custom animation entrance (fade in)
triggered by onClick of the corresponding small text box.
4. On each large text box make a custom animation exit (disappear) triggered
by the onClick of the non-corresponding small text box.
5. On each small text box make a custom animation entrance (fade in)
triggered by onClick of the corresponding png file.
6. On each small text box make a custom animation exit (disappear) triggered
by the onClick of the non-corresponding png file.
7. Run the show
i) only the 2 png files should show
ii) click on one of the png files and one small textbox should fade-in.
iii) click on the small text box and the large text box should fade-in
iv) click on the other png file and the original small text box should
disappear and the other should fade-in
v) click on the small text box and the large text box should disappear
and the other should fade-in
When you click on either of the small textboxes look closely at where the
cursor changes to a hand. On one of them the cursor will change over the
whole textbox and on the other it will change only around the textbox edge.

It does for me anyway.

Regards

Zig
