PPT Link to Excel (On SharePoint)

Help - can't figure this out even after reading many, many messages. On
SharePoint I have an Excel file. On that Excel file there are multiple charts
linked to data on the same Excel file. The Excel files have been copied to a
PPT file (PPT 2003 SP2) and the links work, can be updated, etc. on my PPT
file. I email the PPT file to another person and the links won't update. The
message displayed is: The linked file was unavailable and cannot be updated.
The other person also has PPT 2003 SP2. He also has Contributor rights on the
SP site. Does anyone have a solution as to why this is happening and how I
can fix it?

It's a known bug.Apparently the bozos up in Redmond don't care about whether core interactive functionality of their "office suite"
doesn't work.
