ppt->Html w/Anim. Web link to slide####.html =>IE lockup

We've exported a set of PPT files as web / html with animations enabled.
We then link via a web page back to a specific page of the presentation by
directing the browser to the exported ...subdirectory/slide####.html file.
I've also tried going to the ...subdirectory/Frame.htm#slide####.htm (####
replaced with ID of slide as zero filled 4 digit number - I wish they would
just use the page number.) The animation is simply an audio clip for each
slide.
Last year this was working fine on all machines tested. In the last month
or so some machines are now locking up IE after loading the frame/1st slide,
but before switching to the selected slide. I've tried on WinXpp w/Sp2, Win2k
pro with IE 5.01 Both will lock IE usually requiring TaskMgr kill process.
I've discovered I can get IE back if I go to the task bar & do a series of
contex menus to minimize & then restore the 'locked' browser - It actually
then switches from slide/page 1 to the desired page! No response in the
browser window, no repaints etc. It's like the browser hangs in launching the
Animations in the frame.htm :
<object id=MSOANIM classid="CLSID:A4639D2F-774E-11D3-A490-00C04F6843FB"

codebase="http://download.microsoft.com/downl...9/WIN98MeXP/EN-US/msorun.cab#version=11,0,0,1"></object>
and needs to get wacked on the head to get past that.

If I export the ppt's without the animations, everythings ok on all IE
boxes. I've tried exports in both ppt 10 & 11, same results.
I suspect a change with the Sp2 adds, but am unsure how my Win2k IE 5.01
does the same. That test box did download a new Msorun.dll to launch the
animations, updated ~ same time as Xp sp2 released. We've had machines work
just fine too, unsure of specs, but they already had Office installed,
checking versions and sp's of both OS & Office. I suspect they've not been
updated recently.

Anyone had any similar IE no response problems recently ? Any other
methods to launch to a specific slide ?

A couple of thoughts:

Sometimes IE appears to be locked up when it's actually waiting for a large file to
download. The fact that you're using sounds makes me wonder if this could be related
to what you're seeing.

As to jumping to a specific slide, you might want to look at the javascript in the
table of contents on the left; see if you can emulate the links there.

Depending on how you want to handle the sound, it may be possible to do this a lot
more easily with our PPT2HTML addin (a commercial one). There'a a free demo and more
info at http://ppt2html.pptools.com
