PPT extension Missing for PowerPoint Slides

Hello all,

I'm running Windows XP (Home) with Office 2002.

A few weeks ago, all my PowerPoint files "lost" their ".ppt" extension --
ie. there is no longer a PowerPoint icon visible in Windows Explorer, for
instance. I tried associating the files, but no luck.

I can create files, save them , open them, etc so it really hasn't been a
problem - except when I go to convert them using Adobe Acrobat, then Adobe
says it does not recognize the file. The only reason I can think of is the
lack of association.
If anyone has suggestions for me on this one, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks in advance.

See if this helps:

Thanks, Steve. I've tried this and what I found is all of the files have the
".ppt" extension when I unhide them. What is missing is the PowerPoint icon.
In its place is a generic one. Also, when I right click and try to associate
PowerPoint with the file, the suggested application is the PowerPoint Viewer
and PowerPoint itself is not listed as a choice.

Any other thoughts?

Gratefully,
