.ppt and .pps

Patate

I use MS Office 2002.

When i click on a .pps, it opens PowerPoint in editing mode, instead of the
presentation viewing mode.

I have been looking all over to remedy this, but no joy.

..ppt and .pps both open an editing window. I can click F5 to alternate
between Editing and View modes, but is not convenient.

Ideas ?

Most probably, the registered action for the file extension has changed. Do
the following:
1. Select "Start" | "Settings" | "Control Panel" menu item.
2. Launch "Folder Options" applet.
3. Select "File Types" tab.
4. Locate and select "PPS" in the Extensions column.
5. Click "Advanced" button.
6. Select "Open" action. Click "Edit..." button.
7. In the "Application used to perform action" box, make sure you have
something like: "<path>\POWERPNT.EXE" /s "%1"
Chances are that the "/s" part is missing.

Let us know if this doesn't help.

This is the same question as posed by "nanalynn" yesterday. Open Windows
Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types and locate and select
..PPS. It should be set to run in PowerPoint. Click on Advanced and make
sure that Show is set to C:\Program Files\Microsoft "Office
xp\Office10\POWERPNT.EXE" /s "%1" The version of PowerPoint will vary,
depending on what you have installed. 8=97, 9=2000, 10=2002 and 11=2003.
