PPT 2007: How to use a specific master in a presentation?

PPT 2007: In slide masters there is a master "Title and vertical slide
layout". But I don't see a way to use it in my presentation. Though I can
rotate a textbox and use it but I'm curious to know how to use master.
Also in PPT 2007 help (Overview of layouts) it says there are five built-in,
standard layouts but when I click "layouts" under Home tab it shows me nine
layouts.

Can someone please explain the puzzle to me?

Help and Reality don't always match up, especially with newly released
software. I see nine layouts under the Home tab too, but none have the names
you're asking about.

But if I look at master view, there are indeed two layouts that include
vertical text. I wasn't able to get them to appear as choices in Home tab,
Layout though.

What language are you using in PowerPoint? Older versions have layout options
that are only available if you're using a language like Chinese/Japanese/Korean
that may require vertical text. Perhaps this is similar.

I could have sworn I knew how to get to those two layouts, but I can't get
it to work now for the life of me. I thought they were there for portrait
slides, but I can't seem to get to them to apply them to find out. What's
more, if I make a new copy of one of them I can't get to that either.

It may be that they weren't disabled yet in the beta versions.

There are a total of 11 if you include two Japanese layouts – Title and Vertical Text Layout and Vertical Title and Text Layout – which don’t appear in the Layout gallery unless Japanese language is enabled on your computer. These two, however, always appear in Slide Master view.
