PPT 2003 and 200 on Same Computer?

I just got a new computer and installed Office 200 Pro with PPT 2003.
Even when using the option to just use PPT 2000 features, it simply
doesn't work anything even close to correctly, :-(((( especially with
regards the animations, which are a substantial part of my
presentations. While I will eventually have to figure out HTH to
migrate my presentations over to 2003 and spend the no doubt dyas of
ewffort to do so (perhaps I'll send the nice folks at MS who don't
consider backward compatability a desireable trait the bill for my
wasted time and effort <~>), for now I need to be able to work with
these presentations and to run them on my laptop which is still on PPT
2000 and will be so for some time. How can I load PPT 2000 on my new
comnputer without making a mess of the new Office 2003?

TIA,

Doug

Uninstall both and then install PowerPoint 2000 first, followed by PowerPoint
2003. Doing it in the reverse order can damage your version of PowerPoint 2003.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. Sigh! OK, another hour or so down the tubes. Do I have to
uninstall the entire Office 2003 or just Powerpoint? Also, how does
one install just Powerpoint from Office 2000 Disk?

TIA,

I would definitely uninstall the full Office 2003 Suite because there are shared
components that might have been clobbered.

To install just PowerPoint 2000, insert the CD and run setup.exe. You'll see a
menu that will allow you to do a "custom" install. Select it and then only
select PowerPoint from the list of components.

OK, thanks much. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. To late to get
frustrated when it goes weird on me. <~> I'll let you know how it
goes. Thanks.

One caveat: don't be surprised if PPT gets the slows on startup, at least some
of the time. Each version wants to be King of the PPTs and if it finds that
another version's on the throne, so to speak, it re-registers itself as owner
of PPT, PPS and related file types.

Net: there's a lag at startup each time you start one version after having used
the other version. If you start 2000 then continue using it for a while, you
won't see the lag until you switch back to 2003.

IOW, No Big Deal. Possibly not even apparent if you've got a computer with as
much oomph as SuperSonicSonia. <g>
