I have been trying to download PowerPoint Show (.pps files) sent by friends
for me to open. I have XP and OE in internet explorer. I have seen msn
article ID 326736 that explains the cause, but I do not understand and cannot
work thru it. I have Microsoft Office installed.

You need a special viewer to read .pps files. It can be downloaded (free)
from:

But does your specific Microsoft Office edition include PowerPoint? Not
all do. No worries, there's always the free PowerPoint Viewer:

Thank you for your input. I notice that I have Microsoft Office PowerPoint
Viewer 2003 when I click the Start button. Should I delete this before I
download what you suggest since the info included in your suggestion states
in a note that PowerPoint Viewer 2003 registers with the ppt, pot, & pps file
extensions only if a version of Power Point is not installed. Then it
explains how to remove the download and the download file PPViewer.exe. Also,
there is a PPV 2007 available. Please continue to guide me. Thank you.
