PP07 images degrage when saved as htm file

In PP07, I created a beautiful slide show with various shape effects, shape
outlines, etc. When I save the file as *.html and view it in a browser, all
the effects look terrible. Edges change color, text looks grainy, etc. Am I
doing something wrong? Any tips for features to avoid if you want to show a
presentation on the Web? Thanks in advance.

You might try when you save as an htm/html file under Publish, Pictures, where the default is 800x600, changing that to either 1024x768 or 1152x882 and see if that makes a difference

Sounds like you're getting JPG images, which really can look ratty.

On the Browsers tab of the web options dialog box, try putting a check next to
"Allow use of PNG" (or similar wording).

I gave it a try with png suggestion--no luck. If you wouldn't mind taking a
look, I have posted the presenation as a pptx file and an htm file at
http://gdpkeyboarding.com/test.htm.

Mercy, that IS vile looking.

And it's just as nasty saved from 2003.

If you have 2003 available, our commercial PPT2HTML add-in produces far nicer
looking results (I've just tested it using your PPTX file).

Unfortunately, PPT2007 has several bugs that'll prevent your using it there.

Or, another option: note that the text on the first couple of slides looks very
nice. I deleted one of the orange boxes (the one on page 3 for example) and redrew
it as a simple flat-filled box and dropped the text into that. When I re-saved
from PPT2007 it looked ok too.

It seems to be some of the rectangle fill or text effects that sets the dog to
chewing on the edges.

Thanks, Steve. I think I'll go back in and just remove all the features that
made this looks great in PP07 and terrible in html. Those were mainly the
fancier textboxes and shapes with shading. In PP07, do they have a way to
preview these in the browser without doing an actual save and publish so I
can look slide by slide as I go?

No, unfortunately that's gone away.

But I think once you've worked out stuff for one or two of the worst slides, you'll have
it nailed for the others.

And you should be able to leave the browser open, Alt-Tab back to PPT, make some
changes, resave as HTML, Alt-Tab back to the browser, hit F5 to refresh and so on.

I just realized I can save the presentation as a pdf file and everything
looks fine--even all the shadows, glows, and soft edges used in PP07. Do you
think this would be the easiest resolution to this (no pun intended)? I'm
assuming I cannot use any animations when I save as a pdf.

Acrobat 7 and up seem to be able to save at least some animations, and would indeed preserve
the visual quality of the presentation (or use the free PDF add-in to do the job).

Good idea!
