PP 2003 and Freelance Files

Previous versions of PP easily converted the .pre
versions of Freelance. PP2003 says this feature is
installed upon first use -- it is not on the install
options. And it doesn't work for either .pre or .prz
files from Freelance.

Anybody know?

That depends on which version of FL saved the .PRE file
There were problems with later versions.

Help files are too often out of synch with newly released versions of programs;
that might be the case here. If you don't see the FL converter on the install
options list, my guess is that it's been dropped.

FWIW, you'll get a better conversion if you open the PRE/PRZ in a recent
edition of Freelance and save it as PPT; You can find SmartSuite Millennium
Edition for sale very inexpensively. I'm not sure what the licensing deal is
on these cheap copies -- 30 bucks vs. the 200 or so IBM wants for it ...?

Caveat emptor as ever

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

This is known issue with the offline help files for PowerPoint 2003. The
following topics INCORRECTLY state that translators for Harvard Graphics
and Lotus Freelance are included with PowerPoint 2003:

a) "About converting other presentations to PowerPoint format"
b) "Convert a Lotus Freelance presentation to PowerPoint"
c) "What's installed with PowerPoint 2003"
d) "About file conversion in PowerPoint"

In fact, due to security problems with both translators, they were not
included with PowerPoint 2003.
