Is this a spyware or virus or something bad. I just did a fresh install of windows xp home edition. after finishing downloading all the critical update and updating my av program, i notice this in the startup folder after i restarted my computer. is it there because of the windows update? it wasn't there before. anyone know if this is a safe program on my computer? i ran my av(up-to-date def) and it found nothing. i ran ad-aware, spy sweeper, and spybot s&d and it found nothing. can anyone help. should i delete this? what should i do?

DaBomb,

PowerReg is a utillity used by Hardware and Software
suppliers to help provide Registration information to
them. Say for example you brought a brand new p.c. from
your local PC World, which came with a pre-installed O.S.
They would probably have installed PowerReg to recieve
information about how you feel about you system and how
you system is.

It's an addiational tool that was probably built into you
XP disk which you installed from.

As for deleting it, it won't do any halm if you leave it
there. And as you don't know exactly which bit of you
system is using it, maybe leave it on.

If not, and if you delete it im sure it won't halm your
PC in anyway.
