i ran the new defender in a full scan. it takes forever... it found nothing
except my powerreg software which i allowed. my computer still bogged down as
if there was spyware. i ran adaware se which is free and heavily updated and
ran a full scan. lo and behold it found 30 items. now, most of these were
just cookies and junk, but 2 of these items were malware in my reg. keys and
values. i did not download anything between scans, and i watched defender
scan thru the reg. area before i walked away. it seems as though defender and
malious software tool doesnt do a darn thing but take up space. i hope these
programs or at least defender is fixed so that it works instead of detecting
powerreg apps. please improve these because adaware may not always be free
you never know.

Unfortunately, we are not able to "improve these". Only Microsoft can do
that. This is a public newsgroup composed of people just like you.

Question, is your system still bogged down after the Adaware scan? I bet it
is. If so, maybe those 30 items weren't proof that Defender should be more
like Adaware. Malware doesn't hide just in registry keys. If a file wasn't
also found and removed, I doubt what Adaware found and removed was really
spyware or adware, and it probably wasn't bogging down you system either.

Defender and Adaware remove spyware and adware. They don't promise to speed
up a slow system, because a lot of things can cause that. In fact, Ad Aware
deleting registry values can theoretically cause performance problems.

What it did is not annoy or worry you with false positives. Unfortunately,
some people don't value this and are fooled by products that scare you with
registry values.

You have two different products telling you different things. I see no
reason why you would assume Ad Aware is right and Defender is defective and
a waste of time. IMHO Ad Aware should be avoided, exactly because it scares
people with registry values of little consequence.
