powerpoint

Office 2000, powerpoint on xp. when i try to launck application title flashes ion screen and then disappears while hd goes into read mode and locks. Have to shutdown and reboot to do anything else. Tried repair and reinstall, no luck. any suggestions. Alao cannot get install disc to autorun upon insertion.
