Someone gave me a PP presentation that has a design embedded under the
design template they want to use. How do I delete the embedded design?

Possibly

Go to the master slide(s) and format > background
In the drop down select a plain colour to suit

That could mean several different things depending on what version of PPT you
have and what you're looking at.

Describe how you get to the view where you see this and how you've determined
there are extra designs and we can explain how to remove them. Shouldn't be
difficult.
