Powerpoint + wmv = Problems

Have created a Powerpoint Presentation which "plays" (machine dependent)
a wmv file. The problem is that some PCs (all w/XP) play the movie and
some do not. In all cases the movie plays when using media player
directly, or Real Player for what it's worth, outside of PP. All PCs
appear to have the same version of IE and the same version of media player.
PP must not actually use media player to play wmv files.
I sure could use a solution to this.. I probably should have created a
flash presentation...
Any help is appreciated

is important. The MCI settings on some of those systems have been corrupted by
Real Player. You're right. Media in PowerPoint is not played in Windows Media
Player. PowerPoint passes the file to Windows where it is run in the MCI
player.

It was my understanding, if you use powerpoint 2002 or 2003 the "microsoft windows media player" may be used to play the
video clip.

Or it might use the MCI player (see the flowchart).

I wish it would just "play video"
