Glenski,

Do you have an *English* Windows XP version? or do you use Windows XP on
*another* language?

Are you downloading and installing an *English* PowerPoint 2007 Viewer? or
is it another language version?

I've reinstalled it several times. No change.

I have a Japanese OS for my Windows XP, but I think that is irrelevant
because on another laptop, I have the exact same system, and the viewer works
just fine.

What now?

P.S. I ticked the boxes that are supposed to send me a reply to these
discussions, but I never got a message telling me there were replies here.
Why?

Sorry, I should have added that to the best of my knowledge, I downloaded the
ENGLISH viewer.

Wow, I don't know, then.

What if you hit the Task Manager -- Ctrl + Alt + Del -- is the Viewer
already running?

Have you uninstalled it from Windows Control Panel before reinstalling it?

As for the discussions group, I'll try some tests and see if I get replies.
I know they were having some bizarre synching and other problems in the
recent past, so maybe something's up with that. Or...were they caught by
your junk mail or spam filters?

Glenski,
Sorry, I should have added that to the best of my knowledge, I downloaded
the ENGLISH viewer.

And to my initial question on "Do you have an *English* Windows XP version?
or do you use Windows XP on *another* language?" you should have added that
you are using a non-English XP version... Right?

So you are using a Japanese Windows XP and downloading and installing the
English Viewer version, right? And it does not run, right?

What now?

PowerPoint Viewer 2007 does not run when you try to start it
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929353/en-us

I have a Japanese OS for my Windows XP, but I think that is irrelevant
because on another laptop, I have the exact same system, and the viewer
works just fine.

The "exact same system" means that you have any/one/none version of Office
installed *in both* systems? *The same* version? *Which* version?

Or the Japanese Windows XP where you are downloading and installing the
English Viewer version and it does not run... has *any* Office version
installed?

Maybe you'll find it better explained in

http://groups.google.es/group/micro...r+2007+does+not+run+when+you+try+to+start+it"

I am sorry I have not checked back for a couple of weeks. Been terribly busy.

Echo S,
I will have to check the Task Manager to see if the Viewer is active or not.
Thanks for suggesting that.
Have you uninstalled it from Windows Control Panel before reinstalling it?

I don't recall. Will also check that.

Nothing was in my spam or junk mail filters.

Enric,
I have a Japanese OS and XP, and have downloaded the English version of the
PP Viewer. My Lenovo has no Microsoft Office programs on it whatsoever, but
my other computer DOES. Could that be part of the problem?

As for "which" version of XP, I should have been clearer. You see now that
although I have a Japanese XP on both computers, the Lenovo does not have
Microsoft Office. Will have to see exactly which version of XP it has, of
course. Sorry about that discrepancy. But the PP Viewer is exactly the same
(2007), that's for sure.

After looking at that link you provided, should I make a similar change to
the folder named 3082 in C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft
Office\Office12 ? That is, rename it 1033? (BTW, if 3082 is for Spanish,
what is the number I should be looking for that would be for Japanese?)

Thanks in advance.

Yes. I'm pretty sure PowerPoint 2007 Viewer does not work on non-English
systems when there is no Microsoft Office installed.

Seems as if it is 1041
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/221435 )
should I make a similar change to the folder named 3082

Yes. Make a copy and rename it from 1041 to 1033 (or just rename the folder
from 1041 to 1033). Then, double-click PPTVIEW.EXE... it should work...

Tell us, please...

;-)

Really? Dang, that's a mess. What's the point, then?
