powerpoint stops responding when I click on the File>Open menu

PPT has been working fine until tonight. I clicked on File>Open and it
froze/stopped responding. It also freezes when I choose to add files from
the Package for cd menu.

I can open previous files from the quick list in the file menu. I can open
files from a folder by double-clicking the file name.

Is it a virus?
 
You may find this is due to an update KB908531

You can remove it in add/remove programs if you tick the "show updates" box.

If you have auto updates enabled it may reappear again!
