Powerpoint slide show

It has been a while since I've worked with powerpoint and have a new
opportunity to present a slide show using powerpoint. I can create the
various slides but wanted to know more about how this is used in conjunction
with an overhead screen. I don't know the details. What equipment is
required, etc.? I would greatly appreciate assistance.
 
I bought a Dell precision M70 laptop and a 4100mp dell projector no other
equipment except a longer patch cord so I could remote to 50' for a big
class.
as for programs I have MS office 2003 professional version and I have not
needed anything else. This help?
