powerpoint show

I received a powerpoint show file that I'd like to pull a couple of slides
out of to keep as reference, but don't need the whole file. Can this be
done?

Depends. What version of PPT was the file created in? In other words what
is the file extension. If it is .pps then rename to .ppt and open in Power
Point (any version) and delete the slides you don't want and either save or
save as the file. If it is .ppsx you can't just rename and open. You
should have the file sent to you as a PPTX file so you can open it with PPT
2007 or an earlier version with the compatibility pack installed or have it
converted to PPT 97-2003 format file with the .ppt extension..

If the presentation has no password protect, you can
1. run you PowerPoint program
2. file->>open->> and open your PowerPoint show file
3. then save as ppt file.

Then you can edit the file.

If the file is PPSX, you can open PowerPoint and then use Office Button |
Open in PPT 2007 or File | Open in PPT 2003 (with the compatibility pack
installed) to open the PPSX. Then do as you say -- File | Save As and then
delete the extraneous slides.

PPS and PPSX files are in no way protected. Just because double-clicking in
editing mode opens them in slide show view doesn't mean that they can't be
opened from within PPT itself.
