Powerpoint Read-Only issues

I am starting out in a powerpoint that is shared on the network, but I am in
the file. It is not read-only when I enter the file. However, after I make a
few changes and try to save the file suddenly it is converting to read-only
and making me save as a different file! Any ideas how I am getting kicked out
of the file and how to prevent it?

Thanks!

Well, this is a possibility if it only happened once, but it happened
repeatedly, five times in two hours. I don't think it is likely that another
person was opening the file at the exact moment I was five different times.
Normally, if someone has it open before me, I get a message telling me it is
read-only. Is this a setting I could have messed up in the powerpoint where
it isn't telling me that it was read-only until I try to savet he file?

Is this a SharePoint site that you're trying to open the file from?

If so, it may be that another user still has the file Checked Out. If you
open a file, PowerPoint or otherwise, from an SharePoint site and don't Check
In the file once you're done with it, it will not be available to any other
users.

Something to try: go to the "View Properties" field for the file on the
SharePoint site and see if it is Checked Out. It so, try to Check In the file.

Just a thought.

My bet is someone else is opening the file at the same time.

No, this isn't a Sharepoint file. This is simply a Powerpoint 2007 file
opened from a network server. Normally we wouldn't have problems, it notifies
us that someone else has the file open, but recently (since we got 2007) it
is opening as though we are the first ones in the file and it is read-write
and then when we go to save, it all of a sudden will tell us that we are in a
read-only file and changes the header to say it is read-only! The weirdest
part is that it usually will let us save two or three changes before it
switches to read-only, so I know I was in read-write at some point.
