Powerpoint load time in autostart

I have a powerpoint presentation on 125 slides, but loaded with audio and
music. The full size is 636 Mb. I load it on a CD okay, but when I want it
to autostart, it takes 6-8 minutes to load. No one wants to wait that long,
including me.

What do I do to make it load faster, like say 5-10 seonds?

It takes time for PPT to load and process data. The more data, the more time,
of course.

One way to speed things up is to reduce the amount of data (for example by
optimizing images, converting the sound to lower quality or from stereo to
mono, etc).

Another trick is to spread the startup time around a bit. Instead of putting
everything in one huge presentation, break it up into linked presentations.
The main file might be little more than a menu for the other subsections, so
it'd load almost instantly. It could have links to the other larger
presentations and might even include a note to users that the files will take a
while to load, please be patient, etc.

Thank you Steve. Does that mean that I should split my presentation into
several parts and list them sequentially in the playlist.txt file? Is there
any delay between the segments when that happens?

Thanks

Ah, is this self-running rather than user-directed? I was thinking it was
controlled by the user but if not, the playlist approach might be best in that case.
Worth a try in any case.

There'll still be a delay as PPT loads each segment, but since it doesn't have to
load the entire hulking six hundred howevermany megs at once, the delays should be
shorter.

Hello again Steve:

I cut the files down to 270 Mb by reducing audio quality. The list thing
didn't work, so I tried another link command. From the final slide on each of
8 segments, I activate the first slide of the next segment. I works well
enough, but (you knew there was going to be one) it leaves the finished
segment open when it changes to the next segment. Consequently, when the
presentation is done, the system has 8 open ppt files running. To say the
least, it looks messy.

Any ideas on this?

Not bad at all!

How did you activate the next slide automatically? Knowing that might help somebody
who's better at this than me work out an answer for ya. ;-)

Gary,
Consequently, when the

The trick is to have one "main" presentation, that calls up (links) all your
other presentations, that way the most presentations running at the same
time is 2.
