Powerpoint found an error....

H

Hestie

When I exit powerpoint I got this error message:

"PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct. You should save
presentations, quit, and then restart PowerPoint."

I looked at the knowledge base for fix and I found that that it is related
to Norton office plug-in. I have uninstalled Norton totally few days ago
coz i switch to a different anti-virus, why i'm still getting this error?

Please help.

PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00220.htm

If these don't work, then search for *.PPA files on your system. Rename them
to *.PPX or something. (PPA files are PPT add-ins.) Then restart PPT and
close it. If all is well, then rename the PPA files back one at a time until
you isolate the problem add-in.

Delete your PCB (toolbar) file.

Try changing hardware acceleration.

And please fix the time on your computer. Your posts are showing up in the

For additionial info... the same error also prompts when playing the slides
and freezes PPT. The only way to get PPT work again is by killing its
process from the task manager.

I Found PPTTools.PPA, PDFMaker.PPA, PDFMakerA.ppa. Renamed them all to
.PPX
but still no joy. For additional info, the same error repeats everytime i
click the desktop. What else I could do?

Sorry but I have no idea how to delete PCB (toolbar) file

Search your system for "*.pcb", and rename the extension to .OLDpcb

< and to change hardware acceleration.

Right-click the desktop, select Properties.
Click the Settings Tab
Click Advanced
Click Troubleshooting
Drag the pointer all the way to the left.

If that fixes it, move the pointer back a notch at a time to get the highest
setting where it works. Then search for an updated video driver. (holler
back if you need help, or check with the support people where you bought the
computer)

Sorry i just found out that my timezone is not proper.

You have the entire state of Indiana with you on that one. LOL

Thanks john for your suggestion. I didn't find any ".PCB" and that video
acceleration didn't help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Powerpoint but
still no luck. What else should i do? i dont wanna format my harddrive.

What else should i do? i dont wanna format my harddrive.
A couple thoughts before you format:

Have you rebooted the computer?

Try Detect and Repair (in the Help menu).

Is your system showing all hidden and system files? That .DLL mentioned
earlier may fall into that category, making it hard to find. Look at C:\ If
you can't see "pagefile.sys" then you might have the files hidden...depends
on the OS.

What about Windows or Office updates? What versions are you running?

Is there any chance you're low on HDD space? Is everything else on your
system working OK?

This is totally strange because none of the suggestions on the thread and on
the web fix my problem which they suppose to. I found out that the problem
is related to one of my avi clips which i'm using on most of my
presentations. I downloaded a latest Divx, installed it and it saves my
life.

Thank you guys for your time and support.

Garry
