powerpoint 2007 inserting avi files

I'm trying to insert a movie file, or AVI File into powerpoint, nothing too
long just a brief clip. I can insert the clip and see the picture of it in a
still frame but when I go to preview the presentation it shows the first shot
than the screen where the movie is supposed to be playing goes black, but you
can still hear the sound.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong.

What exactlly do you mean the same folder? Both powerpoint and WMV file are
saved on the desktop.

That will probably be the problem :) Long file paths & powerpoint links
don't really mix well and your desktop will be something like C:\Documents
and Settings\<user name>\Desktop\<your file>. Create a folder on your C
drive, move or copy the files there, re-insert video and hopefully all will
be well. If you are unsure about creating folders & moving files, post back
with version of windows.

Okay, I made a folder on the desktop, I put the powerpoint and AVI file in
there and I was finally able to insert it into the PP pres, it did play just
this time without sound. I did open it in Windows media player and it is a
good file.

Hi

OK, bit of a mix up. Don't create a folder on your desktop - place it
directly on the c drive so the path is C:\<folder name>. To do this, open
windows explorer (right click start menu -> explore) and drag the folder from
your desktop to 'Local Disk (C:)' - your local disk may not be C, but most
are :)

Okay, I got it to work, the AVI file showed the picture but no sound, I
converted the file to MPEG and it work with sound and video. I think it was
the file extension that was incorrect.
