Powerpoint 2003 incompatible with powerpoint 2000?

My users are sending powerpoint 2000 files to powerpoint
2003 users. The powerpoint 2003 users are either getting
a cant read the file message, or they can open it but
some slides are missing data.
These powerpoint files are opening fine on office xp.

Can anyone confirm this or know a work around? We are in
the process of migrating to office 2003 but it is still
months away.
