Powerpoint 2002 - problems inserting a picture from file

Hi,

Please excuse me if this is the wrong forum but in my limited experience
this is where it all happens.

I'm having problems with trying to insert JPEG images in Powerpoint 2002.
Basically, when I select a file to insert, the image won't load and I get a
square box on screen with a red cross in the top left hand corner. This is
really annoying as this used to work just a few weeks ago.

Any suggestions?

It does for Windows XP. It all happens for Powerpoint in the Powerpoint
forum.
