What if you open PowerPoint and then go to File|Open and navigate to the
presentation?

Also, try copying the file onto your hard drive before opening it -- don't
try to work with it from a floppy drive, CD, or flash drive.

If that doesn't work, do you get an error message? If so, what is it?

BChau posted me the file which did indeed crash XP but not 2003. The error
message was the usual "powerpoint has encounter a problem and has to close"

The problem seems to be a logo that was on two graph slides - just pasting
the logo into XP in edit mode crashed it. The logo seemed ordinary and cut >
paste special (png) cures it. Mystery eh.

Any ideas why from Tohlz & Echo or other experts?

Nice detective work, John. And a nice find from tohlz. I tend to think that
might be the issue.

In addition, keeping up to date on service packs for Office XP and 2003
seems to be pretty important to prevent these types of issues. ISTR one of
them had an issue with various Office Art objects and would refuse to
open -- I thought it was XP, but it may well have been 2003. The original
poster said he was up to date with service packs, so I'm leaning toward the
CMYK image thing.
