PowerPoint 2000 with MP3 sound

Hi..
I am trying to add sound to a powerpoint presentation I have created. I am
using an MP3 sound file and can see the picture of the speaker added but no
sound even when I press play sound ?? Is it because of the MP3 file?

What version of Windows are you running? PowerPoint doesn't actually do the
playing. It hands it off to Windows where it is played in mplay32.exe (Win XP
or 2000) or mplayer.exe (Win 98 or ME). You can go to Start > Run and type
mplay32.exe (or mplayer.exe) to open the player. Then open your MP3 and see
whether it will play.
