PowerPoint 2000 will not open mp3 file.

I made some voice-over mp3 files in Creative Wave Studio for several
PowerPoint presentations. They are saved as 16 bit, 11,025Hz files. They
all play fine in Media Player but will not play in PowerPoint 2000. What am
I missing? Does PowerPoint require a specific format for mp3 files in order
to play? What are the specific requirements for a PowerPoint sound file?

You need to test them in the MCI player, which is what is used by PowerPoint .
Go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe and then open your MP3s. Do they play?

Then the question is: How long is the path to the file? Is it greater than 128
characters? Do you have it saved in My Documents? Try moving the file to
C:\Test and then delete it from the presentation and re-insert it from the new
location. Does it now play?

I'd also suggest making certain you have the latest version of DirectX for
your OS
