Hardware: Powercolor Radeon 7500 DVI connected to Samsung 152T

OS: Windows XP, drivers from cd in retail box.

Symptoms: Screen goes into hibernation like mode and cannot be returned
to normal mode without rebooting. The system can still accept network
connections, but the screen is blank. The system is not going into
hibernation, it just goes blank in the middle of using the computer.

Action: Installed new drivers from ATI:
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-radeon-7-90-030605m-009437c-efg.exe

After installing the new drivers, the monitor has gone black for a few
seconds at least once, but it does not lock up the system. Has anyone
experienced problems like this?

TIA.

FWIW, the same thing is happening to a friend of mine who has a Matrox
board. If you figure it out could you please post your findings--that
might give me an idea about what to do with his machine.

If the machine doesn't lockup, it sounds as though the monitor is not able
to sync up. It may be that the video card is set to a resolution that the
DVI panel cannot display.

Boot XP to VGA mode, all monitors are required to support this display mode.
Check the display resolution setting. The native resolution for that panel
is 1024x768, set it to this resolution, and restart in normal mode.

BTW, the motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X.

My monitor, a NEC Multisync XV17+ does this continuously after installing
new drivers no matter which version it is. It seems to be an
incompatibility between the ATI card and my monitor when the default refresh
rate of 60mhz is used. It's as if power on the monitor is being
continuously cycled on and off. Once I make it to the display menu and can
change the monitor's refresh rate to 75 or higher, it runs perfect.
Sure makes it a pain in the butt to install new drivers though because have
the time i'm navigating through the windows menus blind while the monitor
flashes on and off.
It's the exact same kind of monitor blackout that happens when you change
screen resolutions. Only thing is it's continuous until I can get the
refresh rate set higher.

By the way, I had absolutely no problem at all with this same monitor and 3
different video cards before the ATI 9100. Last one was a GF2. I've
reinstalled windows numerous times since also so it's not that.
