POWER USER QUESTION ONLY--This involves a mouse that won't stop clicking itself!

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to read over my dilemma. Here
is the deal: For the last few weeks my mouse has been
acting as though I have been clicking down it even when I
am not touching (I can literally sit and watch the screen
flicker back and fourth as if I were pressing the mouse
down and trying hit enter with it). It is not always
consistent, actually is very random, and sometimes it
gets to the point that I cannot even work.
Cycling the computer helps, but only a little, and only
for a short time--and then the inter demon returns. I
have tried everything I can think of to fix it.
I ran a repair on Windows XP Pro operating system just
yesterday, but that did not make any difference. I also
reinstalled the Office settings (that hold all the
toolbar info, etc) from a time about two months ago when
there was no problem. This did not work either. Imagine
surfing the Internet and your mouse keeping grabbing
sentences to highlight them--well it does that
everywhere. I have a wireless mouse (from Microsoft,
too). I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Nothing. I even
completely uninstalled the mouse software that came with
my laptop because MS said that it could conflict with MS
wireless Mouse system, though I never had a problem in
two years. Nevertheless, I am trying anything.
I hope some techie out there will have an idea what could
be causing the problem. I have installed a number of
programs in the last month but nothing that is out of the
ordinary. I ran a full virus scan-clean and Search &
Destroy session twice--stuff, but nothing that changed
anything.
Any suggestions aside from reinstalling the entire
operating system are greatly appreciated!
I am out of ideas!
Thanks, guys, and girls, for you input:)

O

Old stuff

I've had the same problem and was going to scuttle the
whole thing when I decided to hook up a spare keybourd I've
been keeping around for when I spilled coffee. A change in
keeboards took care of the problem.
